Bosses of Sylvester Stallone's upcoming boxing reality show are hoping to attract an audience the sport has never been able to capture in large numbers - women.

"The Contender", which is set to debut later this year (2004), features 16 fighters competing for a $1 million prize with mentoring from Stallone and boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard.

And Leonard insists the premise of the show will lure the many females who would otherwise find boxing a turn-off.

He says, "Women will watch this. It's not about boxing. It's about people who just happen to box to put food on the table, to pay bills, to pay rent."
