G.I. JOE ACTION FIGURE

In 1987, Hasbro planned to introduce another celebrity as a member of the G.I. Joe team: Rocky Balboa.  This preliminary version of Rocky even appeared in Marvel Comics' G.I. Joe: Order of Battle #2.

Shortly thereafter, negotiations fell through, Sly lent his image to Coleco's Rambo toy line, a retraction was printed in the Marvel Comics, and Rocky Balboa never became a member of G.I. Joe.

Pictured here is an unpainted sculpture by Hasbro designer Bill Merklein that was used to help design the Rocky Balboa prototype action figure.
